Why four CROs joined the board of a BDR company

    A note from our founder

The seat everyone wants to leave

Most BDRs spend about a year and a half in the role. Then they move into an AE seat, and almost nobody comes back. The job gets treated as a rite of passage, something you get through on the way to somewhere else.

That's a strange way to treat the role that opens so many deals. A buyer's first real conversation with a company often starts with a BDR. When that conversation goes well, everything after it gets easier. When it doesn't, even a great product never gets the meeting.

    Why BizDev Labs exists

BizDev Labs started from a simple bet: if almost nobody stays in the BDR seat, a team that does stay can become the most experienced in the market.

I started my career as an SDR in 2019. It was the only offer I got, and I almost didn't get that one. The job taught me what still runs our company today: find what works, stop what doesn't, test constantly, and scale what wins. That's where the "Labs" in our name comes from.

    Outbound as a craft

Today we're a team of career BDRs, strategists and GTM engineers working with 250+ SaaS and technology companies. Every campaign is a test, and every test makes the next one better.

That work has put us in rooms we never expected to be in, with founders who built businesses people use every day, executives who took companies public, and operators who have run revenue at some of the biggest names in software. Each of those conversations taught us something about what great outbound looks like from the other side of the table.

Why four CROs, and why now

Today, four chief revenue officers are joining BizDev Labs as our board of advisors.

CROs see the BDR role from the top. They have built revenue organizations at Salesforce, Zoom, Tableau and Salesloft, and they know what breaks at every stage of growth: the wrong ICP, messaging that doesn't land, and pipeline that looks healthy until the quarter ends.

They'll help us move up market and sharpen our go-to-market strategy, our positioning and messaging, and how we sell to enterprise buyers. In our first working sessions, they've already dug into our ICP and where our programs win, and found ways to make both sharper.

We're here to learn from them, and we're grateful they believe in what we're building.

What it means for the BDR world

For the BDRs on our team, it means learning from people who have built and led some of the best sales organizations in the world. For our clients, it means every program is shaped by leaders who have sat in the CRO seat and know what pipeline has to look like to matter. And for the profession, we hope it sends a signal: the BDR role deserves the same expertise, investment and respect as any other seat in revenue.

If you want to see how that works in practice, here's how our system works today.
